Transitioning to a Vegan Lifestyle
If you’ve made the decision to become vegan, you might be wondering where to start. What are you supposed to eat? What can’t you eat? Will you get enough nutrients? 

The vegan transition can feel a bit daunting at first—but, focusing on one change at a time will ensure a smooth switch. It’s important to move at a pace that’s comfortable for you and follow an easy vegan meal plan. 

Learn About Veganism

Before you attempt to change your diet and lifestyle, you should learn as much as you can about veganism. Here are a few things to think about: 

• If you’ve decided to go vegan, you’re probably looking to make a positive change in your life. You should research exactly what veganism is and how it will affect your body and mind. Educate yourself about vegan food products and costs. Develop a sustainable cheap vegan meal plan. 

• Eliminating animal products from your diet will change your nutritional intake. Learn how to get adequate nutrients from a plant-based diet. 

• Get in the habit of checking ingredients lists. There are some less obvious ingredients that are animal-based that could pop up in unexpected products. 

• Before you transition, start looking for vegan products at your favorite grocery store. Be sure they carry a large number of vegan options or consider trying a new store. Following a vegan diet plan for beginners can help you get started with shopping for new foods and preparing new dishes. 

Addition Over Subtraction

One of the biggest concerns people have about switching to a vegan lifestyle is all of the things they can’t eat after the transition. Instead of beginning your journey by subtracting foods, start by adding new foods. 

Incorporate more whole grains, beans, nuts, beans, and seeds into your diet. Try tofu and other meat substitutes to get accustomed to them before you actually stop eating meat.

• Switch out dairy milk for almond or soy. 

There are many different ways to go vegan—when planning your transition, your goal should be to find what works best for you. 

Make the Transition

When you’ve done your research, identified your reasons for going vegan, and performed plenty of cooking experiments, you’re finally ready to make the transition. Here are a few tips for making the transition as easy as possible: 

• First, remove animal products from your diet that you won’t really miss. Not that crazy about yogurt? See ya! 

• Continue adding more whole grains, nuts, and seeds while cutting back on your least preferred animal products. 

• Slowly reduce your intake of all animal products. Try removing one food or group of foods at a time. 

It’s important not to get hung up on labeling yourself based on your dietary choices. Don’t get overwhelmed! A vegan lifestyle is not necessarily complicated or difficult, but there is definitely a learning curve. Take your time, do your research, and learn what’s best for your body.
